‘Radif’ (meaning order in Persian) is a collection of many old melodic figures preserved through generations by oral tradition. It organizes the melodies in a number of different tonal spaces called ‘Dastgah’.
The traditional music of Iran is based on the ‘radif’, which is a collection of old melodies that have been handed down from masters to students through generations.
Over time, each master’s own interpretation has shaped and added new melodies to this collection, which may bear the master’s name.
The musician also said that based on a deal with Iran-Gam Company, he will soon release an album of a concert which he staged at Vahdat Hall in 2012.
Prominent folklore musicians Zolfaghar Askarian and Gholamali Pourataei as well as musicians of national and Tehran symphony orchestras, including Salar Aghili performed in the concert.
Saket is a composer and virtuoso on traditional instruments ‘tar’ and ‘setar’. He has written 12 books on these instruments.
He has studied the works of classical and contemporary Iranian musicians, and brought innovations in blending traditional Iranian music and Western classical music.

Tehran, July 5, IRNA - Iranian musician Keyvan Saket will publish a book on ‘radifs’ of Persian music. In an interview with Mehr News Agency, Saket said, “Publication of this book is among the most important works in my career.”
